Amidst a global pandemic and a fundamental shift in the retail industry, in spring 2021, ASHYA leaned into the optimism of an IRL immersive shopping experience and joined Industry City’s budding retail destination, nestled along the waterfront of South-Brooklyn, New York. As one of the creators in the Makers Guild—a design studio meets retail space—the shop featured a wide selection of accessories, periodicals, and a curated selection of objects and gift items, a reflection of the founders’ cultural influences and curiosities. The Makers Guild retail concept provided clients with an intimate opportunity to witness the behind-the-scenes process of makers, while shopping for specialty items.
I worked closely with Industry City’s Vice President of Leasing, lead designer, project manager and a community of local artisans and fabricators to bring the space to life over the course of five (5) months. I worked alongside the leasing company to manage and oversee the budget for the buildout, hired retail staff to support vendor relations and in-store clienteling as well as managed store orders.
